About FFG

Friends of Farm Green began after two local mothers, Jayne Van Rensburg and Claire Jacobs formed a petition asking for Brighton and Hove Council to review and renovate Farm Green Park in Bevendean.

More than 770 signatures were collected within a couple of weeks and it was presented to a full council meeting on 24 March 2016.

The petition was started by the two mums after they were told that the council could not afford to replace broken play equipment in the playground.
Instead the council paid staff to remove it.
Jayne said: “Since the petition began the wheel swing and baby swings have been repaired and parts have been ordered for the roundabout.

“The balance beam has still not been improved or the flooring which is still hazardous and mouldy.
“More work is needed to enhance it to make it useable for various ages as there isn’t enough equipment for toddlers or older kids

“There’s not enough to do in Bevendean as it is, so a park is essential for healthy constructive play for parents and children".
Lower Bevendean is one of the most deprived areas of Brighton and Hove. On the national deprivation index it is ranked as the 7000th most deprived area out of 32,000 areas.

As a result of the petition Claire and Jayne have formed the Friends of Farm Green group which is a community group designed to fundraise and continue fighting for improvements to be made to Farm Green Park.
